Jewish Organizations Demand Surge in Aid, No Reoccupation of Gaza

August 14, 2025

As organizations deeply committed to a secure, Jewish, and democratic Israel, we say together and unequivocally: It is past time to end this war.

The Israeli government’s decision to press ahead with a full military takeover of Gaza, without a feasible exit strategy or a concrete plan for alternative governance, is reckless, dangerous, and morally indefensible.

It is clear to many, including an increasing number of Israel’s friends like us, that this war is no longer justifiable. Israel’s own leading security experts agree: all that can be accomplished militarily against Hamas has been achieved. Continuing the war will endanger the remaining hostages, kill more Palestinian civilians, further devastate Gazan society, and accelerate Israel’s slide toward global isolation. Far from weakening Hamas, prolonging the campaign risks strengthening the terror group.

Most Israelis oppose this course of action. We fear it will deepen the erosion of American support for Israel and place unprecedented strain on the US–Israel relationship.

We must also speak out against extremist voices in the government promoting a radical agenda to displace Palestinians and reestablish Israeli settlements in Gaza. After 58 years, we have seen how occupation of the West Bank has hardened into de facto annexation, making peace ever more elusive. Importing any version of that reality into Gaza would be a disaster for Israel’s democracy and for the Jewish values we hold dear. A reoccupation of Gaza must not happen.

Instead, the Israeli government should end the war in exchange for the release of all remaining hostages; unleash a massive flow of humanitarian aid to all civilians in Gaza; and work with regional partners and the international community to build a governance structure that ensures Israeli security, removes Hamas from power, and offers Palestinians—in Gaza and the West Bank—a pathway to freedom, security, and prosperity. That is how Hamas will truly be defeated.

We call on the Israeli government to immediately change course, and on the United States—Israel’s most important ally—to show the leadership this moment demands: to save as many lives as possible and bring this conflict to an end. We urge the entire Jewish community to join in this call.
