NJN Enthusiastically Welcomes Israel-Hamas Agreement

New Jewish Narrative enthusiastically welcomes the announcement of an agreement between Hamas and Israel on the first phase of a plan to end the Gaza War.

The three most urgent pieces that need to happen are an immediate end to the fighting, the return of the hostages to their families, and the surging of humanitarian aid to relieve the suffering of the people of Gaza.

The involvement of the United States in recent days in the effort to end the war appears to have borne fruit. Now begins the long painstaking task of holding the parties to their commitments, reaching agreement on the later phases, and denying spoilers the opportunity to derail the agreement.

The United States has been vocal in its requirements of the Palestinians, including with respect to internal reforms and the disarming of Hamas. Attention also needs to be paid to the Israeli side, which chose to end the last ceasefire.

American leadership will also be essential to ensure that the process put in place by this agreement will lead to a reconstructed Gaza and an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza.

“These last two years have been catastrophic,” said Hadar Susskind, President and CEO of New Jewish Narrative. “I hope that this agreement brings this chapter to a close for both Israelis and Palestinians and leads to a better future for both peoples. I call on President Trump to continue pressing both sides so that today’s news is truly the beginning of the end.”
