50+ Organizations Stand Against Rep. Fine’s Anti-Muslim Bigotry

A coalition of over 50 faith-based and civil rights organizations, let by the Muslim Public Affairs Council, sent a letter to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeen Jeffries, calling for Representative Randy Fine to be censured and stripped of his committee assignments for his anti-Muslim comments. The full text of the letter follows.

The Honorable Mike Johnson
Speaker of the House
U.S. House of Representatives

The Honorable Hakeem Jeffries
Democratic Leader
U.S. House of Representatives

Dear Speaker Johnson and Leader Jeffries,

We represent a broad cross-section of civil society organizations that are deeply troubled by a recent statement made by Representative Randy Fine. During a House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing, he asserted that “mainstream Muslims should be destroyed.” We are urging you to take decisive action by censuring Rep. Fine and stripping him of his positions on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Education and Workforce Committee.

This was not an offhand comment or a poorly worded critique; it was a call for violence against an entire religious community by a sitting Member of Congress. There is no contextual defense or ambiguity in its meaning. Left unaddressed, such language legitimizes violence, endangers American Muslim communities, and signals that calls to mass violence are tolerable within the House of Representatives.

This remark is consistent with Rep. Fine’s record, not an aberration. He has repeatedly engaged in rhetoric that dehumanizes Muslims and Palestinians, including referring to Palestinians as “animals” and endorsing collective punishment. His language has grown more extreme, not less, while accountability has remained absent.

The House has imposed serious consequences for far less. Representative Ilhan Omar was removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee without advocating the destruction of an entire community. Failure to act here would confirm that standards of discipline are applied unevenly and that calls for violence against American Muslims are treated as uniquely excusable.

Allowing Representative Randy Fine to continue serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Education and Workforce Committee is indefensible. We urge you to act by censuring Rep. Fine and removing him from both committees. Silence or inaction would send a dangerous signal—that explicit calls for violence against Muslims fall within the bounds of acceptable conduct in Congress. Congress must draw a clear and enforceable line.

Calls for violence against any religious community have no place in this institution and must carry consequences.

Sincerely,

Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC)
