NJN Welcomes Ceasefire in Lebanon
April 16, 2026—New Jewish Narrative welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon as an urgently needed step to halt the violence that has brought devastating consequences to civilians on both sides of the border.
For months, families in northern Israel and southern Lebanon have lived under the constant threat of rockets, airstrikes, and displacement. This ceasefire offers a critical opportunity to save lives, allow communities to begin recovering, and create space for diplomacy.
But a ceasefire cannot be the end goal. Lasting security requires sustained political engagement, accountability, and a commitment to the dignity and safety of all people in the region.
We urge all parties to uphold the terms of the ceasefire and for the United States to support efforts that move beyond temporary calm toward a durable and just resolution. The previous ceasefire – agreed to just 18 months ago – collapsed because of a lack of accountability. No meaningful consequence was imposed for the violations that took place. America must exercise its leverage going forward to ensure that the ceasefire holds.
