NJN Welcomes Return of Ran Gvili to Israel

January 26, 2026 — On October 7, 2023 Ran Gvili rushed out of his home to defend Israel from the invasion of Hamas forces. He was injured during the battle to defend the kibbutz of Alumim and taken captive. Three months later the Israeli public learned that he had died. 

With his return to Israel, all of the hostages taken from Israel on October 7 are now home. 

“New Jewish Narrative joins with all of Israel to welcome the return of Police Master Sergeant Ran Gvilli,” said Hadar Susskind, President and CEO of New Jewish Narrative. “We are thankful that all of the hostages are now home where they belong. From this moment, we must turn toward the healing of Israeli and Palestinian societies alike, and toward the urgent work of rebuilding Gaza, completing Israel’s withdrawal, and shaping a new political reality there.”
