Odeh Impeachment Campaign is an Attack on Democracy

July 14, 2025 - The Knesset vote on the impeachment of MK Ayman Odeh fell short of the 90 votes needed to force him out of office. Odeh is one of the most prominent leaders of Palestinian Citizens of Israel.

New Jewish Narrative stands in firm opposition to the effort to impeach Ayman Odeh from the Knesset. This move was not only politically motivated—it is dangerous. It is a strike against democratic norms in Israel and an intensification of efforts to silence Palestinian citizens of Israel and their elected representatives.

Ayman Odeh has long been a principled and courageous advocate for equality, justice, and peaceful coexistence. His voice—like the voices of millions of Palestinians who are citizens of Israel—must be heard, not criminalized.

“This impeachment attempt was about silencing dissent,” said Hadar Susskind, President & CEO of New Jewish Narrative. “It is about punishing an Arab leader for representing his constituents, for opposing the continuation of the war in Gaza, and for refusing to accept the status quo of occupation and discrimination. Silencing dissent in a democracy is a red line.”
