American Diplomacy is Conspicuously Absent; President Trump Must Act Now
July 23, 2025 — The foreign ministers of 25 countries with a long history of support for Israel issued a powerful joint statement on Monday demanding an immediate end to the war in Gaza, the full release of humanitarian aid, and the unconditional return of hostages.
Their collective message – “the war in Gaza must end now” – is clear and necessary. So is their strong criticism of three Israeli policies: Israel’s failed mechanism to deliver humanitarian supplies to Gaza, Israel’s reported plans to relocate the people of Gaza into a “humanitarian city,” and Israeli actions to further settlement activity in E-1 in the West Bank.
New Jewish Narrative has long held that food and other humanitarian supplies must never be used as a weapon of war; The forced relocation of Gazans into an ever smaller area would constitute a crime against humanity; And the development of settlement plans at E-1 would make it impossible to create a contiguous Palestinian state in the West Bank – dealing a severe blow to the two-state solution and Israel’s viability as a Jewish and democratic state.
This statement did not materialize out of thin air. It was released because of the conspicuous failure of the United States to lead a diplomatic process that can end the war, resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and bring the Israeli hostages home. It is in the absence of effective American leadership that we have seen the humanitarian situation in Gaza deteriorate, settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank rise, and Israeli hostages continue to suffer.
As important as this collective statement is, the nations who issued it do not have the same level of influence as the United States of America. We call on President Trump to take strong and immediate action to press for a ceasefire, for an immediate end to restrictions on the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and for the return of the hostages who have already spent 655 days in captivity.
Hadar Susskind, President and CEO of New Jewish Narrative said: “Every day that goes by brings more suffering. Everyday that goes by deepens the fear and hatred that permeates how Israelis and Palestinians see one another. The United States is uniquely positioned to change the trajectory of this war. It is time for President Trump to take decisive action. The consequences of delay are unbearable.”
