Today’s Senate Action Marks Unprecedented Support for Ending Gaza Blockade
May 20, 2025 - Today, Senators debated S.Res.224. This resolution, introduced just last week, calls on the White House to work to secure the release of the hostages, end the blockade on humanitarian aid, and bring a durable end to the conflict in Gaza.
New Jewish Narrative mobilized to build support for the resolution immediately after it was introduced. We did so because food should never be used as a weapon of war, and it is vital that we use our collective voices to say so from the halls of Congress to the bimahs of our synagogues. Imposing a total blockade on the entire population of Gaza is a form of collective punishment and a violation of the Geneva Convention.
46 senators – two independents and every Democratic senator but one – are on the record as cosponsors of this resolution.
“The number of senators who chose to support this resolution is striking,” said Hadar Susskind, President and CEO of New Jewish Narrative. “Criticizing the Israeli government used to be considered political suicide. Now Democrats are responding to the devastating situation on the ground. There’s no reality in which Israel can pursue a strategy of starvation and endless war, and expect to keep bipartisan American support.”
