The Question Isn’t Whether Aid Ends, but Whether Trump Uses U.S. Leverage

November 3, 2026 — New Jewish Narrative will be watching closely to see what the administration actually does after President Trump said on Fox & Friends this morning that U.S. military aid to Israel “gets cut off at the end of the year.”

The president’s statement doesn’t match the current U.S.-Israel memorandum of understanding, which runs through 2028, or the ongoing negotiations over the next one. This president routinely contradicts himself and his own administration. His words alone do not settle anything.

There are already efforts in Congress to shift U.S. aid from direct financial support into funding for Israel within Pentagon procurement and coproduction agreements. Such an arrangement would make the aid nearly impossible to condition, stop, or detangle from broader US defense priorities.

Ending grant aid would not end American leverage. Israel will still depend on U.S. weapons sales, diplomatic backing, and strategic partnership. The United States should use that leverage to meaningfully change Israeli government policies in Gaza and the West Bank. Strong American diplomacy is especially important in the wake of Israel’s election to ensure that any new government charts a new course that rejects the disastrous policies of the past four years.

“We’ve heard a lot of announcements from this president, and many of them never happen,” said Hadar Susskind, President and CEO of New Jewish Narrative. “What matters is what this administration actually does, and we’ll be watching very closely.

“One thing hasn’t changed. The United States has real leverage with the Israeli government, and it should use every bit of it to change Israeli policies that perpetuate the crisis in Gaza, that enable settlement expansion, and that feed settler terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank.”
